Peata’s principal activity is the Dog Visiting Scheme in which approved volunteers and their dogs pay regular visits to caring units. We provide information to health care professionals on the benefits of Pet Therapy.
Peata visitors also work in rehabilitation hospitals providing support and encouragement for severely injured patients. Typically, visits are weekly and last about an hour.
All Peata Dog Visiting Teams have to be assessed and approved for suitability. Volunteers should have a caring attitude, must demonstrate full control of their dog and show that they can carry out visits in a manner that is non-disruptive to the functioning of the unit. All Peata dogs undergo behavioural assessment to ensure that they are friendly and like to meet people. Peata Visiting Dogs should always be well behaved and at ease in hospital-like environments. Commitment is an essential requirement of all Peata Visitors as patients build a relationship with both volunteer and pet and greatly look forward to the visits.
Peata Visiting Teams are fully insured and are Garda vetted
